Travel to Lamu on a budget! In the past you may have probably wanted to go somewhere chill and unwind for a few days but you had no idea where to start.. Or roughly how much to spend.. Well this post is a first of many that can give you an idea of what to do!
Lamu is such an ideal place to relax, mainly coz of the “pace of life”.. Movement is mainly via donkeys, dhows or on foot..
You can visit Lamu old town and marvel at the beautiful rustic architecture, visit the museums, the donkey sanctuary, have cocktails on a floating bar while watching the sun set в, shop!, visit Shela and take a boat ride for only Ksh 500.. And much more..
Our proposed budgets are for a group of 5, at airbnbs which we found amazing! And for 4 days and 3 nights.. Contact us for the links.
Low budget (Ksh 10,000) – get to Mombasa via bus, then get to Lamu via another bus. Transport and accommodation roughly amounts to 6k per person.
Higher budget (Ksh 25,000) – get to Lamu via flight. Transport and accommodation roughly amounts to 18k per person.
So don’t be afraid that you might need crazy amounts of cash to travel anywhere locally! Pack your bags and travel to Lamu on that tight budget!
*Of course it’s always advisable to carry extra cash in case of emergencies..
